A current challenge for VCSEs is the need to make sure they are fit for purpose & that productive relationships & clear lines of responsibility between Boards/trustees & paid staff are in place.
The board & trustee role is a voluntary one & staff are delegated the responsibility to carry out the organisation’s work, which is often managed remotely. In this time of change the need for a
skilled & knowledgeable board that understands its role, can make informed strategic decisions, supports its people, manage performance well & understand the landscape its people operate in
are critical to longer term sustainability.
To have a greater understanding of effective governance and how to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of your role.
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
1. Evaluate their organisation’s governance capability & carry out a current board skills analysis
2. Understand & apply the six principles of quality governance
3. Discuss & decide what changes are needed & how to plan for change with their employees & address the challenges this presents
4. Evaluate their learning & have an action plan to take away & apply back in their organisation
Who is the workshop for?
Anyone who is a Board member or trustee of a VCSE organisation.
How will it work?
This is a mini learning event that will focus on present challenges and ideas for future change in the time available. There will be expert input and professional discussion and interaction and formulating actions
using short exercises. Everyone will have a workbook that includes further ideas, detailed information and support to take away that includes clear guidelines and information for key roles. Participants will use their real life situations and experiences to help enable them to be clearer about their expected duties and responsibilities.
